The Key To Quality Carbonation

After years of development, Spärkel created the revolutionary system technology and Carbonator recipe needed to make the perfect drink without a CO2 tank. Developing the packaging for the Carbonators wasn't an easy task, involving a very strict set of requirements and barriers from varying local regulations. The result is a sachet made of a single polypropylene plastic, carrying the recycling symbol #5. The sachets are made with as little material as possible with each Carbonator (A+B) using less than 1g of recyclable plastic to minimize environmental impact and reduce landfill waste output.

Why Spärkel Carbonators?

After years of research and testing, Sparkel developed the system technology and perfect Carbonator recipe needed to carbonate beverages without a CO2 tank. The final step was to develop a format to package the Carbonators in. This wasn’t an easy task as we set very strict requirements in order to deliver the perfect drink:

Following months of research and testing, our engineering team was able to develop a sachet made of a single polypropylene plastic. It carries the recycling symbol #5, a commonly accepted recycling category. The sachets were made with as little material as possible with each Carbonator (A+B) using only 0.8g of recyclable plastic.

The material cannot allow any moisture in to keep the ingredients dry and separated.

USEABILITY

The user experience must be easy to handle, pour and tear.

MALLEABLE

Must be flexible and workable for precise machine operation when filling and sealing.

PRECISION

The packaging must allow for the precise measurement of small granulation ingredients.

MINIMAL MATERIAL

To save raw materials and eliminate waste without compromising the durability or functionality of the packaging.

Bulk Containers - Impossible to achieve precise measurements

Paper - Not impermeable

Compostable - Varying local regulations make compostable packaging collection unattainable at this time. Proper moisture, oxygen, microbe activity, temperature, and PH are required to support the composting of packaging. Curb side collection of organic waste is in its infancy, with only 4% of U.S. households having access to it.

Biodegradable - Shifting to biodegradable plastics is far more complex that i might first appear. Dropped on the ground or into oceans, there is no certainty a biodegradable plastic will degrade or how long that process will take. Most current infrastructure is not sufficiently equipped to efficiently process these materials at this time.

Recyclable Plastics

Meets all of the above requirements. Recyclable plastics can be used to minimize environmental impact and reduce landfill waste output.
